When you get involved with Head Start, you’re setting an example for your child that education comes first. This will help your children succeed in school. Our programs rely on our families and community members to strengthen our practices, so we offer a number of ways for you to be involved in your child’s education – from committees to the classroom.
If you want to get involved in making decisions for your Head Start program, then we want you on the Policy Committee! Parents of students currently enrolled in the Head Start program and community members are encouraged to join the Policy Committee to make a positive impact for your children and your community.
For parents and families who want to be involved in making decisions for the entire LACOE Head Start program, the Policy Council is for you. Policy Council members are elected every year from each program’s Policy Committee, and work with the County Board of Education and community members who are selected by the LACOE Head Start director to serve on the Council.
The Policy Council consists of three committees that focus on specific areas of concern as they relate to our programs. These committees are:
- Executive Committee
- Planning and Development Committee
- Education and Transition Committee
Each committee is dedicated to making our programs the very best they can be for our children and families.
Yes, we have a PTA! It’s part of the 33rd District PTA, which is one of the largest in California. Our PTA supports the efforts of all LACOE Head Start programs. The PTA is a great way to meet other parents and support the program.
Just one day in a classroom can make a big impact. Teachers and staff encourage parents and families to join them in the classroom to help with everything from special projects to reading to students. Get involved and make a difference for the children in your community.
