Through the program, 41 Head Start parents now have the education and training to enter classrooms as assistant preschool teachers.

Even small amounts of lead in a child’s growing body can have negative lifelong impacts on learning, behavior and health. Most children who have lead poisoning do not look or act sick.  Children should have a blood test at 1 year and then again at 2 years of age or older with a blood test value of 3.5 or less. Do you know your child’s lead poison status?

- [September was National Sickle Cell Awareness Month](https://prekkid.org/september-was-national-sickle-cell-awareness-month/): Did you know that sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States? It affects nearly 100,000 Americans and more than 20 million people worldwide. With SCD, red blood cells, which are typically disc shaped and flexible, are instead crescent, or “sickle,” shaped. The cells do not bend or move easily and can block blood flow throughout the body. This can lead to serious conditions such as stroke and infections, as well as eye problems and episodes of severe pain called pain crises.
