State Programs: Another way to give children a head start

State Preschool Programs get kids ready for school

California State Preschool serves children age three to five in a center-based program that gets them ready to start kindergarten. All programs support learning, health, nutrition, parent participation, and students with disabilities. Your child will build math and reading skills, as well as social skills through engaging with other children. All state preschool programs are free and include healthy snacks and meals.

Preschool gets kids ready for school and sets them up for success throughout their life. Studies show that kids who go to preschool are more likely to graduate high school and be employed when they grow up.

Care and Education with General Child Care Programs

In our center-based General Child Care and Development program, children from birth to age three receive year-round care in your neighborhood. We support early learning programs that help get kids ready for preschool, kindergarten, and beyond. We also support children with disabilities and encourage good health, proper nutrition, and parent participation. In this program, your infant or toddler receives care from certified teachers who  help them learn and grow.

The Classroom and Beyond

In addition to early childhood education, State Preschool and General Child Care programs support and serve the whole family. We offer extra services like help with nutrition, making sure every child is getting regular health care by connecting you with resources in your community.
