It has been a busy season for the Governance and Parent Development team. In November, we hosted the annual parent recognition event. This virtual event celebrates the contributions of Policy Council members and honors them for their dedication and commitment to the shared governance process.
All members received certificates along with awards for those who participated on committees and for those members who had perfect and outstanding attendance at the Policy Council meetings. Additionally, Policy Council members also voted for their peers to win three special awards:
- The Helping Hand award went to Yvonne Cotroneo from ABCUSD for being responsible, kind, and demonstrating compassion for her peers.
- The JEDI award went to Jennifer Cutlip from Norwalk-La Mirada USD for her leadership in promoting Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
- The GEM award went to Cynthia Barboza for demonstrating Growth, Empowerment, and the Motivation to Succeed.
On November 30 and December 1, we hosted our first in-person event in almost three years, the annual New Member Training. Although turnout was low, many parents appreciated the opportunity to meet and connect on a deeper level. During the January Policy Council meeting, new officers and committee members were selected for the 2022-23 Policy Council. A virtual “make-up” training was held on January 20 for those members who were not able to attend the in-person event.
Recruitment is ongoing for new Local Business Community Representatives who represent major community, civic, or professional organizations that have a concern for children of low-income families and who can contribute to the program and support our goals and objectives. Please support the development and growth of our new Policy Council and forward any suggestions for Local Business Community Representatives to the Governance Program Manager, Beatrice Peralta at Peralta_Beatrice@lacoe.edu.
