How did you learn about Head Start/Early Head Start?

I heard about Early Head Start from a flyer I received in the mail. I searched sites near me and found Plaza de la Raza.

Why did you choose Head Start?

I was struggling with my two-year-old daughter after I had my son and I no longer had the time to spend teaching my daughter. I was feeling guilty because I was heading back to work soon and I felt like I was not managing motherhood the right way. I was very reluctant to send her to school because I was afraid to let someone else watch my child, but what I did not know then was that it was going to be the best thing for my family and I.

How has your agency supported you with your children’s learning?

Plaza de la Raza has helped my kids develop in ways I did not know was possible. My three-year-old daughter is thriving socially and she comes home so proud to tell me things she is learning from her teachers. My one-year-old amazes me every day and he is saying new words and even coming home singing songs. With the help of their teachers, I have learned how to further help my children learn and develop at home.

How has your agency supported you with your personal goals?

My agency has been a huge support to me. It helps me ask important questions and be more involved in my kids’ education. They also gave me the fundamentals to take this knowledge past EHS and HS.

What advice would you give to another parent looking for a school for their young child?

I would say to do your research and do not be afraid to ask all the questions. Do your best to be involved in your child’s education.
