The L.A. County Transitions Workgroup—including LACOE, Garvey SD, Pomona USD, and several organizational partners—is proud to introduce the L.A. County PreK to Kindergarten Transition Systems Alignment Framework.

The 51-page framework, available in both English and Spanish, helps schools and early childhood programs strengthen and sustain effective preschool to kindergarten transitions through the Three C’s of Transition—Coordination, Cooperation, and Collaboration. It is the culmination of 15 months of dedication kick-started by the Bridging Head Start to Kindergarten Transitions Symposium in June 2019.

On September 11, 2020, the new framework was unveiled during a special virtual event for parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders. Nearly 500 registered for a live session featuring talks by County Superintendent Dr. Debra Duardo, Office of Head Start Director Dr. Deborah Bergeron, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, State Deputy Superintendent Sarah Neville-Morgan, and Garvey SD Superintendent Anita Chu.

Recordings of the live session and five virtual workshops, as well as associated materials and the framework itself, are available at lacoe.edu/Early-Learning/Kindergarten-Transition-Framework. LACOE hopes the framework’s strategic systems approach will help bridge the gap for all preschool children transitioning into kindergarten.
