Raising Head Start Awareness in the Nation’s Capital

On September 20, 2023, LACOE, Foundation for Early Childhood Education, and our Policy Council parents got a head start on Head Start Awareness Month, joining parents and staff from all around the country in raising Head Start awareness on Capitol Hill.

Policy Council Chairperson Eileen Delgado, Recording Secretary Ana Vasquez, and PTA President Sandra Rodriguez shared the profound impact that involvement in Head Start has made for them and their families. LACOE and Foundation staff educated policy makers on the current challenges with staffing Head Start classroom and the importance of improving compensation for early educators to give children the best chance for a bright future.

LA County representatives Judy Chu, Adam Schiff, and Julia Brownley personally met with the LACOE team, which also engaged with staff from eight other Congressional offices.
