Governance

Shared governance is at the heart of Head Start success. Parent involvement in policy and decision-making are key to encouraging engagement and fostering a collaborative learning environment. As part of shared governance, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) serves in an oversight capacity to ensure that the decisions of your agency’s shared governance committees are carried out appropriately and are in full compliance with regulations.

The LACOE Governance Team is responsible for:

  • Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships between the County Board and your agency’s governing board to review and monitor plans and services.
  • Ensuring that policy councils and committees are made up of qualified members, who actively plan, review, and monitor program materials and services.
